5-star client review

Quint B.

5-Star Client Review
John did an exceptional job and went above and beyond to assist us in handling a commercial transaction and everything that comes with it. We got sidelined by a larger firm and decided to go with John after talking with him; turned out to be one of our best decisions! He did a great job all around, especially good at communicating (phone, email), really helped us throughout the negotiation process, tells it to you straight (even the hard truths), phenomenal work ethic, and is very well respected by his peers. Can’t recommend him highly enough! He’s the only attorney we want to work with in the future. Thanks John!

5-Star Client Review
When the party we had contacted with to buy our family business decided they didn’t like the terms to which they had agreed stopped paying us the agreed upon amount we went to John. A few emails and phone calls later and the buyer agreed to pay us what was agreed on and to catch up all the past payments. Johns firm, quick, and decisive actions resolved the matter of a few weeks negating the need to go to court for resolution which saved us quite a bit of money. If you ever need an attorney, you will not go wrong hiring John. He is everything you would hope to find in an attorney.

5-Star Client Review
I have used John McCormick and his team for many legal services including LLC formation and real estate transactions. All of the work they do is top notch. I’ve worked with other firms that routinely mess up the settlement statement and require correction at the final hour. I never have this problem with John and his team. When setting up my LLC, I asked a lot of questions and John was always prompt and knowledgeable with his responses. His paralegal Allison is great too and extremely knowledgeable. Great people and easy to work with. I highly recommend.

I definitely could have created my new business, Davis Wealth Management LLC, but boy that would have been a mistake. Because business formation is not an area in which I practice, I had no idea where my blind spots were, and let me tell you there were plenty. The knowledge I received from the firm is invaluable. John McCormick and his firm are very reasonably priced and quickly and efficiently assisted me in creating my new business. It was completely turn key; they did everything for me. I can’t recommend their services enough. Also, huge shoutout to Taylor who kept me informed every step of the way!

Wow! Had Emma and John work with me in regard to an asset purchase and they were nothing short of incredible. They were fast, efficient, kind, and understanding. They will without a doubt be my first stop for any future legal needs, including referrals to areas that may not be in their purview.

Business Attorney in Virginia & North Carolina: FAQs

What does a business attorney do for a small business?
A business attorney helps you set up your company correctly, prepare and review contracts, document the relationship between owners, stay in compliance with state filing requirements, and handle issues such as disputes, new investors, or the sale of the business. Getting advice before you sign or act usually costs far less than fixing a problem afterward.
    Do you offer flat fees?
Yes, for many defined projects. Entity formation, for example, is offered through flat-fee packages. For ongoing or open-ended work, we explain how billing will work before we begin, so there are no surprises.
Can you serve as our outside general counsel?
Yes. Many of our business clients use us as their outside general counsel, calling us for contract reviews, owner and employee questions, and major decisions as they come up. You get a legal team that knows your business without the cost of a full-time in-house lawyer.
We already formed our company. Do we still need an operating agreement or bylaws?
Yes. If your company was formed without an operating agreement, bylaws, or shareholder agreement, or with a generic template, we can prepare or update those documents so they match how your business actually works and what the owners intend.
Do you work with businesses outside Virginia and North Carolina?
Our attorneys are licensed in Virginia and North Carolina and work with businesses throughout both states. We also handle business transactions for clients across the country, coordinating with local counsel when a matter turns on another state’s law.
    Do you handle business disputes?
Yes. We help resolve owner disputes, contract disputes, and collection matters, through negotiation where possible and litigation when necessary.
Do you work with nonprofit organizations?
Yes. We help nonprofits form, obtain 501(c) tax-exempt status, adopt bylaws, structure their boards, and stay in compliance.
